Gift Idea For The Artistic Kiddo

How many of you have kids that get sucked into unboxing type videos?  If you don't, they just aren't old enough.  It is coming.  I was in denial too.  I am always telling them to turn on something to stretch their brains and get off YouTube.

I have a confession to make.  I few weeks ago, my daughter called me out.  I was sucked into the same type of thing but it was a watercolor how to video.  The kids were instantly hooked as they peered over my shoulder.  They love watching. I have created monsters.  But, at least it's not an LOL video.  Right?

Anyway, the kids started trying to mimic the painting videos.  I love that it has triggered their creativity in a new way.  I thought how cool would it be if I could find something with a little more direction for them at a good price.

Well, a few days later, a blog I follow mentioned this watercolor class for kids.  I was even more excited when I saw that it was being offered by Simplified Classes.  I have taken a couple classes with her myself so I know the quality.

I am always trying to find experience gifts instead of all the STUFF for Christmas and birthdays.  The struggle is real my friends.

Here is the perfect gift to feed their creativity and the only "stuff" involved is a set of watercolor paints, brushes and watercolor paper. New flash! Art supplies do not count as STUFF! ;)

It is a watercolor painting class for kids and it is all done online at their pace.  There are several projects included and some extra coloring pages both for the holidays and everyday that you can print out.  It is the gift that really does keep giving.  The cost is $29.95 and you can get 15% off with the code JOLLY.
You provide the brushes, paper and Paints and that's it.  I do recommend getting them a good quality watercolor set and brushes.  It truly makes a difference to have quality supplies. The brush set I ordered is linked here.  They are the same brush set recommended in the class link.  The Paints recommended were not available but I ordered these and I am thrilled with them.  Hello Amazon! The lid is even a little mixing tray but... it is blue and small so... I recommend a white ceramic plate from your kitchen for now (easier clean up) and a metal butcher tray if they get really into painting and mixing colors later on. Any artist paper marked watercolor paper will do.  They don't need super large sheets. Anyplace that sells craft supplies or art supplies will have this and it should be under $10

The best part for me was that both kids can do the class and I just pay once.  I just had to have a second set of brushes and colors.

I have taken some of the classes for adults and I loved them!  I have also previewed the kid's classes and they are fantastic.  The will learn about color mixing, caring for their materials and step by step ways to create watercolor art.  They then can take what they learn and apply it to their own projects.

I can not wait to sit down with them and work on these classes.
Yes, I plan to participate too! Why not?

Come on!  Go get your shopping done and make a merry mess!
