The Great Purge 2020 - Post #1 - The Rules!
So…how will this work?
Each Monday I will post a challenge. The challenge will outline a space or category of items to tackle for the week. This breaks a mass decluttering up into tiny manageable pieces. We all have the merry mess of life to manage and we need to give ourselves time and grace!
The challenge space will get deep cleaned, organized and purged of anything that is expired, unused or doesn't belong there.
By the end of the week you will have your space looking organized and pretty and you will have a trash and purge pile.
Stop! Your weekly challenge is not complete until the trash is taken out and the purge pile is taken to its final destination. So, if you have a pile to go to consignment, donation, or another location, take it there. Another option is to make a garage sale pile. This is not always the best option. Here are a few things to consider to see if it is right for you.
Will you actually have a garage sale?
The last time you had a garage sale, did you send remaining items to donation after or are they still lingering in your space?
Is the work that goes into a garage sale worth it to you? They are a lot of work. Your time is valuable.
Will your profit out way the real-estate space you are taking up until garage sale season?
I have done many garage sales. I have it down to a science at this point. :0 Everyone knows I love going to a good Garage sale too.
GARAGE SALES ARE A LOT OF WORK!! I make sure I load the van or call a charity for a donation pick up right after the sale. Schedule this the same tie you schedule your sale. Once I clean it out, it is gone. I am over it. I love the feeling of the truck being filled and stuff being hauled away. If you have trouble letting things go and are the sort of person that will talk yourself into keeping it and your purge piles will make their way back into your life, DON"T SAVE FOR A GARAGE SALE!
Your commitments and your season of life also factors in. Even with my love of a good sale, in this season of life, it is not for me. The calendar includes, my husband’s work travel, dance, sports schedules, school work, and more. When we have a clear weekend, it is time for family. I am not willing to trade any of that to make a time for a garage sale. For me, Simplifying and cleaning out is the prize.
So, to each their own. Whatever plan you make, stick to it. Once it's out it's out!
I will be sharing decluttering tips and tricks that pertain to the areas we are purging each week. Sometimes they will be in a separate blog post and sometimes they will be in the weekly challenge post. Sometimes I might add a quick idea to the Facebook page!
Feel free to share your ideas on the threads too!! Let’s make this fun! We can share pictures, share the mess, share the results of the purge…Be creative with your photos!
IMPORTANT!!
If you find that you just can’t get a task completed in the time allowed or you miss a week, don’t get overwhelmed. Do what you can in the time left then move on with us the next week.
Life happens! Kids happen! Work happens! No stress allowed! 😉
You have a cleaning team (Your family or a good friend) Some things are easy enough to tackle solo and others you will need your team. Kids (and husbands) stick to a system more if they help create it!
OK! Let's get this cleaning party started!
